Default Difference between electronic and mechanical guages?

I'm new to the whole guage thing, and I was wondering what is the difference? I understand that one uses hoses and the other is through wires and signals, but which ones do you guys use, and what is most accurate? I am looking at Oil Press, Oil Temp, and Water Temp, which should I get for each gauge (mech or electr)?? Thanks!

I run mechanical everything. I don't trust electronic gauges.

dont quote me on this but for your wanted gauges they only come in mechanical gauges to get the best and most accurate pressure or temp. if you really think about it..

Use ss line for the oil pressure line. You will not have any problems.

And, you don't have to run a water line in the car for the temp gauge. The water temp gauge has a probe that connects to the block.

Not helping guys, tell me where besides ebay, as in a store or website that carries them. Please tell me why I should buy mechanical, it just seems to be a GREAT hassle to run all those lines.....Thanks

http://www.sumitracing.com

http://www.autometer.com

get autometer guages (probably the best out there). the website has installation instructions. the new guages should come with new sending units that u install on the motor, which then send electrical signals to the guages.

Mechanical gauge has an actual PHYSICAL connection from the gauge to whatever mechanism is used to measure information.

An electronic gauge uses signals from a sensor to the gauge, making it solid-state more or less since there's no moving parts apart from the gauge itself.

Liken the mechanical gauge to the controls of a standard airplane, and an electronic gauge to fly-by-wire airplanes.

Another analogy would be the difference in transmissions between a Formula 1 car and a Champ Car. The Champ Car has a physical cable running from the shifter to the transmission. The Formula 1 car uses paddles on the steering wheel to shift. This sends electronic signals to the transmission. There is no mechanical connection.
