At the drag strip, where do axles usually break?
ive seen the inner axles break right where it goes into the tranny, so the metal peice got stuck inside the tranny. seen the exact same thing happen but on the hub side. seen the joint itself just strip

Depends on what kind of diff. you have and where they break. Visegrips if theres a nub, if the diff is open, you can pull the other axle and punch it through, or a carbide drill bit and an easy out...

if they break in a Quaife, do i have to follow the same procedures to get the broken part out?

The quaife does have a hole in the middle that you can use a punch and knock it out from the other side.

there have been numerous threads re: people breaking stage, i believe, just about every stage of DSS there is.

Here is a picture that I took with my cell phone at the track one day after my frined broke this dss stage 2 axle on his prelude..
Again the quality sucks because it was taken with my cell phone..
