Sorry I can't offer more help, but I'll do what I can.
First off, you'll have to remove the tranny to figure out what's going on, so we'll start there. Yes, you definitely *can* take it out the bottom. It's not exactly *easy*, but there really is no quick and easy way to take it out. The biggest part of the work, to me, is just getting all the other stuff out of the way so you can get at the transmission mounting bolts.
Yes, you'll want to pull some of the suspension, but not all of it. You'll need to remove the axles, which will require you to remove the strut/spring unit and the strut fork, and you'll need to pop the ball-joints loose at the bottom of the hub/knuckle assembly.
One note: BEFORE draining the transmission or removing the axles, find and loosen the transmission filler bolt. Nothing's more of a pain in the butt than having an empty transmission and NOT being able to get that bolt loose to re-fill it!
As for replacing a gear, I can't say how hard it is, but it IS a do-able thing. But where to find the gears? My *guess* is that it's more likely a shift fork inside the transmission; gears are hardened steel, shift forks are aluminum, and I've seen a few broken ones.
If you're going to crack the transmission open, you NEED a good service manual. Follow directions, and pay close attention to how everything goes together. It's a precision machine, and getting things "close" won't work, unfortunately.
Your best bet may well be to replace it with a used transmission. As it's a '91 Si, you want a '90 or '91 Si transmission. You *can* use an '88 or an '89, but you'll need the right clutch and flywheel for them, since they are different-sized friction surfaces than the '90-'91.
Also, if you just need to get your car moving again, you can use a DX or HF transmission from similar years ('90 or '91). They'll work on the car, but your gear ratios and acceleration will suffer.
Also, you might have to get different axles to use those. But the transmissions are usually cheaper (and there's a reason for that - they're not as quick!).
Have we helped yet? The good news is, you've got options. The bad news is, they'll likely all cost you money and work. Sometimes, all you can do is smile and think of it as a "learning experience".

Thanks for the reply kwicko... i just was hoping to get it done and thanks for the info. I wonder how hard it is to fix the fork myself... cuz either way if i take it to the hsop to get fixed itll be a lil bit of cash but id rather have them do it than have me **** up on something i need... But thx again.
