Default HELP with VSS

Ok, so I was in the middle of replacing my VSS. I see that its basically a three part system.

Female plug - - Male plug w/ base - - - core with gear

I undid the 3 10mm bolts holding the two plugs in, now i'm left with the spring for the core showing, and no way to get it out. I tried prying a bit, but didn't want to break anything. How do I get the little yellow gear out of the tranny? (I only know its there because I see it on my replacement) I can already tell the male version of my VSS was busted, as its missing the entire ring.

Theres one 10mm bolt that actually holds the VSS in the tranny.. And then the other two bolts are to take it apart. Wiggle it out and replace.

thats what I figured, but all the wiggling and prying i can seem to do wont get it off. I was worried that I would break the teeth off the yellow gear.

No, was waiting for the go ahead that I wouldn't snap the teeth. I have the top half disassembled at the moment (with the 2 10mm bolts) and I have the third bolt out, I just didn't want to really get at it and break something.
