Check engine light on, Losing power at 4k RPM; light off, powerkill @5250
Hi I did a search and cannot find anything on this problem. I have a 2000 accord lx with 52k miles.. and when I initially had this problem, had a cone filter on my intake.
To make a long story short, the check engine light came on while I was on the freeway and after doing a quick troubleshooting saw that everything should be fine. I hopped back on the freeway and the car bucked at 4000 RPM. There was a total power kill. All the sensors are in place, anything electrical is plugged in correctly, all fluids are normal, and the temprature is normal. nothing smelled like it was burning (circuits, oil etc)
The grounding termial on the battery was loose, so I replaced that, and I stuck the stock air filter and sound resonator back in.
Within a span of 3 hours, and me not doing ANYTHING at all to the car except the above, the check engine light is now OFF and the power kill is now at 5250.
I was going to run a diagnostic test, but now that the light is off, I'm not too sure if I can test it now.
One other thing - the AC is dripping a lot of water now. I don't know if that's related or not. But it wasn't dripping when I first pulled over. It started after I found out that there was a powerkill at 4000.
I just replaced the oil/filter and replaced the coolant the other week.
I have NO idea what is wrong with the car, and neither does my boyfriend..
It's my little brother's 16th birthday party tomorrow, and I missed my baby sister's first soccer game as a goalie because of this. I am definately NOT going to drive 90miles home with this car. I also commute 30miles to school/work -> 1hr+ drive.
I kinda need to figure this out.. FAST. Please help!!
opps, it's an auto

My car has been doing the EXACT samething for the past 4months. I have replaced the 02 sensor, coilpack, ignitor, and added a new adjustable fpr. The only thing that has caused any change in the problem is the fpr, only reason i changed it, is because a friend pulled the vacuum line on the stock one and it had fuel in the vacuum line!. I don't have my fuel pressure guage installed yet to set it, but the car used to do it everytime after driving the car for ~15mins. Since the fpr install, sometimes it will run fine longer before it starts messing up. I've been communting 35miles each way to work/school everyday w/ no problems w/ the car running hte way it is. If you find out how to fix this before i do PLEASE let me know!!
If your light is on your car will be in safe mode and will run like ***. You need to check the code to see what it is, or at least reset your ecu by pulling the negative battery terminal or 10amp CLock/radio fuse to clear it and see if it comes back.
yeah. the second time i reset the ecu, the light did turn off, but like i said, it still chucks. i just found out how to check the codes without the diagnostics computer. i'll run the codes a little later tonight with my bf. i trust his electronic knowledge more than my own, and he's done it several other times with other cars.
i'll keep you posted

I couldn't get the CEL to go back on. I drove all around town, and up and down the freeways -- no light. I even revved past 5250 and nothing happened. I got home and put it in neutral, and the powerkilled at 5000.
My car is still under warranty, and I already made an appointment with Honda. I think the terminal had something to do with it, but it still didn't completely fix the problem. We'll see on Monday :/

Please keep me informed of what Honda tells you. My car is WAY our of warranty, and the Honda dealer here gives me weird looks when i go there to get parts for my car. (my car is semi gutted w/ a rollbar, race seats, harness, etc) You can email if you want

I took the car in yesterday, but the honda mechanics didn't touch the tranny. all they did was look for codes.. (which they can't) and since they couldn't pull any, they didn't do anything else. I could have told them they couldn't pull codes!!!
I picked up my car after class, aboot 8, and no one was there for me to talk to. they're going to get a piece of my mind.
if they're too lazy to figure out what the problem is, i'll just have them replace it and give me the old tranny to look at.

auto or 5 speed??? If it is an auto the computer might not let you rev it pass 5000k in neutral or park. Just a thought

Tried it on my parent's 2001 accord. it does.
94Accord-
i'm taking it to the other honda dealer closer to my school next week (i hope). the Honda in Elk Grove, CA has just been giving me such a hard time.
