Default Aftermarket vs. OEM rods.....

Here's a question for the ages....how sturdy are OEM rods? Are aftermarket rods necessary when building a "semi-mild" n/a D-series motor? I will be running about 11:1 compression with a6 pistons on my daily driver. Who thinks the OEM (d16y8) rods will be able to handle what I throw at them in the ballpark of 150 whp? I have read stuff about high compression requiring aftermarket rods, but how high is "high?" Little help....!!

So compression doesnt have anything to do with the load y8 rods can handle?

If y8 rods are safe to use on a d-series motor with 11:1 compression Im all about it. Saves me money on rods.

You can always use the beefier LS rods and mill a little off the top so its fits.

well here's the thing bro:

the rods you have might be fine for now, but what about when you get used to that power? you WILL want more and you might as well do the rods now. That way you can nearly eliminate the risk of snapping/throwing a rod now and down the road.

I vote for shot-peened LS rods or aftermarket... whatever floats ur boat, y0!

How much would the machining cost all together to use ZC rods instead?
