Default O/T: Looking for a new Deck....

I am looking to replace my stock deck with something a lot better! Unfortunately I can't afford new speakers at the moment, so I am going step by step. I have been looking at the Sony Xplod Deck (the one with no buttons on the face) as well as some JVC/Alpine/Kenwood decks.. Price doesn't really matter, just hoping to stay under $700... Suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Under 700 for the deck or the whole system?! Heh, I assume for the whole system. Well, I am undergoing the same process myself, and am getting some fairly good deals. Here is one tip though, dont buy from major chains (best buy, circuit city, crutchfield). Crutchfields service is good, but prices still high. I would recommend checking out w w w.thezeb.com. They have good prices. And as far as a deck goes, get an alpine. They are awesome. You can get one for about 300 for a good one. After that, upgrade the speakers, shouldnt cost you more than about 200 for some infinity kappa's. And for a little extra punch, I'd put in a small amp and a single sub in the trunk. I just bought an mtx amp and dont have a sub yet, but I got yanked on the price. the zeb has the same amp that I bought for 50 dollars cheaper. Peace

I am only looking for a deck at this time... $700 is for the deck only.. I have seen many decks that are way more expensive than that, like the Alpine MP3 Deck, its in the $850 price range... So any deck suggestions would be great, nothing else. Also, what do y'all think of the Sony Xplod one, (no buttons/joystick remote one)..?

For really high quality, nice looking decks, check out JVC's SH55, SH77 and SH99. My friend just got the 55 in his civic and it looks and sounds great, and for $700, you can probably get the 99, which has all of the top end features. I'll probably end up buying one of those for myself!

I would stay away from Sony have heard all bad things about them. Kenwood and JVC too all pieces of crap. Alpine i've had good luck with them in my LS i had a older 1 but in my R i have had 3 head units in it and they all malfunctioned or broke on me withing a month period finally got fed up and told them to take the piece of **** Alpine out and replace it with the Pioneer. I have the Pioneer with the digital face (swimming dolphins) and have had no problems with it. In fact all my vehicles i have put Pioneers in them and have had no problems with them. I would highly recommend Pioneers. and i would recommend some of the Name brand chain stores (Best Buy, Circuit City) That's where i have had mine installed at and have had no problems just don't buy there warranty, they have so many loopholes they can jump through it will make your head spin. but anyways with the Chain Stores they will avertise Free Installation once in awhile or free speakers which i always take the free installation. Just My $.02

I Would have to say ECLIPSE all the way, A nice feature they have is ESN and the fact that if the deck is stolen Eclipse replaces it for free.
Speakers - MB Quart, Best sound and quality Of any I have tried.

Go with an Eclipse CD5441, MB Quart 5.25" Musicomp's PKC-113, and either use the built in amp or get a Rockford or JL amp For the Rockford try a Punch 160.2 for the JL try 300/2

I Work at Best Buy in Car-Fi I would recomend Pioneer,Alpine even tho we dont sell it and Kenwood very reliable companies stay away from the sony deck we have had nothing but problems with the motors sony/aiwa decks are made by the same company garbage. also i would recomend THE EXTENDED Warranty as the one person said there are loop holes i worked here and at circuit city best buy warranty is SAME Day exhange there are no loopholes in the warranty your deck breaks we give you a new one simple as that also remember free install over 99.99 and parts will cost u like 20 for a harness and 20 for a fit kit you will need those parts simply to install a deck.i can hook up the price too email me.

MB Quart?!? Pffffttt!!!

Overpriced junk. And a lot of their stuff isn't even "Handmade in Germany". Their 5.25" 130TX3 based Reference speaker sucks. The woofer can't produce any midbass and I had to replace 2 of them. One of them, the tinsel lead popped out and the other one the butyl resistant UV surround split apart. They're like Bose...it's just the name. I can go on and on, but I'll restrain myself.

Eclipse definitely is the way to go...Their preamp section and skip protection is awesome. but if you want amber illumination and something similar in performance and simplicity, go with a Nakamichi CD45Z. A lot of BMW owners go with Nak because it matches their dash. I can't stand the riceboy headunits..i.e. Sony Xplod.... I liked Alpine too, but their year's head units are pretty hideous looking...

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I'm sure it will be painful, but over time, you'll learn to...

Oh! Your DECK! I thought you said something else. Never mind...

PYTypeR408,

My advice to you is do not go with the sony with no buttons on the face. You will find it very hard to try and drive and play with that damn remote. I have sat at the audio shop around here and played with it. It's the biggest pain in the ***. Besides, what happens if you ever loose the remote? My suggestion to you is get the Sony Xplod CDX-M610. I have that radio and damn, it's badass. I love it! I believe it ran me around $340 or so. It all depends on where you buy. Here's some of the stuff it has along with a web adress to check out some pics of it. Enjoy man!
