Default Need help with tires.

So my beloved S03s are bald after a mere 12,000 miles.

I'd love to buy another set, but things are tight these days and I cannot justify the price for a tire that is consumed so quickly.

I'm looking at Bridgestone Potenza RE750s and Yokohama AVS ES100s.

What I need is input from people who have used these tires and have put more than a few miles of use on them.

These tires will be used only for street driving, so ultimate performance is not a priority. My two biggest concerns at this point are wet performance and treadlife.

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Damn! Don't know how you managed that. Mine seemed to disintegrate before my eyes, and I drive fairly conservatively.

Treadwear on the Es100's is a suprisingly long 280

they have EXCELLENT wet traction, as is the dry traction.

for the money I don't think you'll find a better value...I certainly love them.

Thanks for the input, everybody.

I've learned not to trust treadwear ratings, as I had a set of AVSis, rated at 160, last over 20,000 miles while my S03s, rated at 220, are bald after only 12,000. That's why I'm asking you guys about your experiences. BTW, my car's alignment is entirely within factory specs.

i have not much experience with these other than street driving.. only had them for maybe 3k miles.. i've had much other problems to take care of.. but i guess they have better dry traction than s-03's.. sidewalls are softer but not a great difference.

MXs feel great for everyday use, But no track/strip use to say of. And as for rain, the little I have been in- Seems like a solid ride.

I know that not many liked the RE730s but dunno about the new one (750). I'd be willing to try ES100s or MXs as my next daily tire.

You can see a comparison between the RE750 and the ES100 on the Tire Rack website here.

If you get the ES100, there are some advantages of the stock 195/55-15 size (compared vs the 205/50-15) - the 195 is cheaper ($56/tire vs $72) and better in the wet. Just be aware that the 195 are on back order at the Tire Rack, so you'll be waiting a month or more for them to arrive; the sooner you order, the sooner you'll get them.

Thank you.

I did check the Tire Rack Web site comparison, and have read the reviews of the respective tires as well.

The difference in price does make the 195/55 more attractive, however if I have to wait a month to get them I will probably go with the 205/50s since my tires are bald to the point of being dangerous on wet roads and it shall soon start raining rather frequently here. I'll have to check their availability through Discount Tire Direct.

i my S03s too...
from what i've heard from people -- no real complaints against the es100...pretty much bang for your buck type of tire and better than average wet handling for a performance tire. i hope i get more than 12k from my S03s
