Default EP3 - Black Housing Headlamps & Side Blinkers?

Im interested in painting my front lamp housing black and also my side blinkers area. I've seen a lot of people do it but from what I was told, if you spray paint over the chrome, the paint would peel. Has anyone here done it and have experienced that so far? A friend of mine told me that it would help if i sanded it down first before painting. That way the paint would stay. ANy advice? Thanks

You really dont want to ruien the healights doing that. If you want the real thing, go to http://www.inlinefour.com there you can find JDM black housing healights. They retail for $400 for a pair. They are pretty sick looking too

You need to sanded down the chrome part first. That's how all the RSX fellows do. Use 600 Grit sand paper to sand down the chrome part, then use primer, then 4 ~ 5 coats of high heat black paint.

here's a great walkthur from ClubRsx:

I didn't sand my housing either, i just masked off the reflective areas and gave it 5 coats of spray paint. I didn't notice until after I was done that I used glossy black paint..but whatever. It looks good. Make sure you seal everything correctly too, because one of my headlights didn't seal all the way, and it fogged up after every car wash before I ended up resealing it.

It probably would've been better if I did sand the housings because if you're up close, you can see where I messed up.

And 400 dollars is costly for some people...(like me)...I prefer the 5-10 bucks I spent...and I get good comments about it all the time, even if they do notice I messed up.

I just wanted to make sure because I wouldnt want it to start peeling n everything. Is the gloss just for looks or does it help protect the paint from the sun?
