Balance Shaft Belt Installation Question
When installing the balance shaft belt, I see how to line up the front balance shaft pulley... and I know the crank should be at TDC... but the rear balance shaft pulley is confusing me. I can open up the "maintenance hole" and stick something in there, but it moves a little either way cause i dont have anything the exact size to put in there. I would think that there would be some alignment marks... and I see an alignment mark on the pulley but it doesnt point to anything when I have something put in the maintenance hole.
wtf?
thanks

Align the rear balancer shaft pulley by using a 6 x 100mm bolt or equivalent as an alignment tool. Scribe a line 74mm (2.9inches) from the end of the bolt. Insert the bolt into the maintenance hole to the scribed line.
You dont need to use that maintence hole. The rear pulley turns 3 times while the shaft itself once. The pulley has a notch on itself, turn this notch up, release the pulley and the pulley must stay at this position. If not, turn the pulley one or two turns until it stays there.

I second the motion . . . That maintenance bolt can be an absolute bitch to get off.
There's the top notch on the pulley, and another little dot that actually lines up with a part of the block casting about 120 degrees clockwise from the top. Just make sure the weights are at the bottom of the shaft by spinning it until it stays in place by itself.

thanks everyone for the replies i am still somewhat confused just cause the only mark i see to line it up with is at the top, and then also if i put something in the maintenaince hole anyway, then the mark doesnt line up with anything.
thanks
thanks
you guys are the **** i totaly see it now thanks a lot...
the confusion was cause there is 2 marks on the pulley, a notch and a dot, and i was aligning the dot up, and didnt even see the notch... now that you told me about the one at about 5 oclock i lined up the dot there and i see the notch lining up with the pointer facing up and this has got to be mint..
THANKS the helms wasnt very clear on this.

question. .it's beena while since i did a timing belt on an accord, but if i remembered correctly, does the balance shaft pulley spin 2 times while the engine spins once. If that is the case, can teh balance shaft pulley be 1 full turn out of turn? or it doesnt matter.
