Default D17 tuning problem

Ok i am looking for a little advise. I have a 2001 ex civic d17a2 with IHE. I have recently installed a custom intake manifold with very short runners. The original manifold (if you didn't know) is plastic, top mounted throttle body with runners that start in the bottom then come up into the head. Now with this alone the torque has increased in the lower end, but in the top end around 5500 the power falls off. Do you think that an adjustable cam gear would be able to put the power were I want it? Or am I gonna have to get a VAFC2. The design of the new inatke manifold is basicly a box with a hole in the top for the TB and short runners going into the head. I suspect that I might have to get a custom ground cam with the right overlap to get any gains form this thing. any thoughts??? thanks

I would try a cam gear. Retard the timing a deg or two and see if it helps it pick up in the top end.

Shouldnt you advance the intake cam for more top end power?

i would think a custom reground cam would give you pretty good gains, try coltcams.com.........i talked to the guy for a while, very knowledgable, he's been grinding cams forever.

A lot of D Series motors have good gains across the whole power band by retarding 2-3 degrees.
