Default B16a CRX

Hey,
My cousin bought a CRX with a b16a2 in it. His tachs stops at 7600 RPM's and will not let him use his full redline (8200 i belive) why wont the car let it go to red line? and is the problem a major loss to the cars preformance?

is there a CEL or anything? also if its a b16a2 i belive thats suppose to tach till 8600..what ECU do you have..i say yes it is hurting the performance, because when you turn more RPM's, it will be reved right up in vtec next time you shift..people will say no no your losing power and over turning it, but everyone has there own opinion.

Is he using an unmodified P28 ECU or something? Or maybe a B16A automatic ECU?

A USDM B16A2 with the correct ECU should cut fuel at 8200.

Well his ecu is not letting him rev to 8200 because its in saftey mode, limp mode what ever you want to call it. Its basically lowering the rev limiter so you don't harm the car because something is wrong with it, or else the check engine light would not be on.
