i have a jdm h22 4th gen and i need to know what i should set the timing at

before my timing was at 10 but in the book it says that timing for 2.2 li vtec prelude should be at 13-17 so i set it at 13 the car doesnt knock as much but it skips now like i can feel a kick when i put it in first gear and i let go of the clutch slowly before it would go smooth but now it skips?? help!!

will be taking car to shop class tomorrow need answers asap
