Default Another starting problem-a little different

I have a 1990 1.6 civic Awd wagon with approx. 180,000 miles. It has always driven fine and started first try. This morning I went to start it and the radio and lights came on (I replaced the battery about 3 weeks ago), it turned over just like normal but it just wouldn't fire up. It wasn't hot like others have described in their starting problems and it didn't die while driving. I remember having to turn the key for a while on my sisters old honda to get it to start in the morning. The couple of times I have tried turning the key, my car feels like it is right on the verge of starting. I haven't had the timing belt changed yet and I am worried that if I keep trying to start it and it is the timing belt that I will screw up the engine permanently. I am not sure if it is a broken timing belt because it ran fine yesterday and never died like most people describe when their timing belt goes. Any ideas, your help is much appreciated.
