Default CX EX Tranny questions on FD

I have a CX tranny with an ex engine and it takes forever to get through the gears. I mean its a fast car but the gearing seems very long. If I switched to an ex tranny what would effect be on gearing? And Final Drive? With cx tranny isnt top speed like 145?

Thanks

I did some calculations for you...at 7200 RPM here are your shift points with respective transmissions (using 195 50 15 tires...stock tire size):

Stock CX Transmission:
46 - 85 - 140 - 175

DX Transmission:
37 - 68 - 102 - 132

EX Transmission:
35 - 60 - 91 - 126

Ratios take from Bone's site...DEFINITELY get the EX transmission

Thanks guys, yeah ex is looking better and better, especially with flywheel and clutch. Right now it takes forever to get through gears i think a new tranny would be a good invesment. How hard is it to put one of these things in?

The EX tranny is the best thing I did for my HX (I haven't really done much to my car though). For $350 though, I don't think you can beat it. It's also a pretty easy job if you have a couple guys helping.

It's a bitch to install if you've never done one. Once you are done, it'll seem a lot easier. Pop out the axels, unbolt the starter, unbolt the tranny, drop it out the bottom. It sounds easy, but give yourself plenty of extra time! Good luck.

Took me and my friend one full day to do mine. Tranny jack would've helped about 100x. Also be sure to retorque the main bolts and mount bolts after about 100 miles. A couple of mine had loosened up.

no need to pull the axles from the hub, just pull the from the tranny and ;et them drop.

Remove tranny mount and support engine with wheels or jack.

Remove rear mount bolts to tranny.

then support the tranny while you unbolt it from the engine.

Never let the tranny support itself on the input shaft.

Wiggle it off and let it drop. I always just manhandle it from the top and let it drop down.

When I put it in, I just pick it up from the top and throw it on

Give yourself a couple hours.....last one I did was like 2 hours

my writeup never said you have to remove the axles from the hub...

12. Remove the axles. You must unbolt the fork at the wheel hub, there are 3 bolts for each fork, and then pull the hub (with axle still attached) outwards so that the axles come out of the transmission.
