Default HELP! Tire wear........

I've only had my rims for a year and the tires need to be replaced. It seems that the inner part of the tire (the very edge) is rubbing against something but i can't figure out what. When driving (going straight) I could actually sometimes smell the tires rubbing. My car is a 5th gen lude and lowered 2 inch. with H&R springs. The rims are 17x7 with a +42 mm offset (kind of low) and the tires are only 205/40/17. I want to be able to run 215's and want to have a lowered look. Is there any modfications that would help me run this?

It sounds like you either need to raise the car or think abotu a camber kit. I've been running a 1.75" drop for close to 18 months now and haven't seen any odd wear as of yet. With yoru tires and offset I can't see your tires actually rubbing on anything unless soemthing is very very wrong.

I agree, fix your camber and rotate every 6,000 miles or so.

When was the last time the car was aligned? I will suggest that this be done ASAP and I think you will find the toe-in is out of spec. In addition, if you lower more than 1"-you will need to do camber correction (unless you like buying tires). The rule of thumb for camber is that for each 1" of drop there will be a change of -0.75 degrees in the camber setting. Honda spec (5th gen) is 0 degrees +/-1 degree for the front; the rear is about -0.5 with a range of +0.3 to -1.8. I am running 16x7 @+42 w/no rub on Neuspeed Sport/Konis. THe only place we found that rubbed was a nub of plastic on the rear bumper cover where it meets the lip on either side.

I agree w/ BJ here... 2" is a pretty good drop, and you are certainly picking up some negative camber, but toe, specifically toe-out, will destroy the inside of tires in short order. That's the first place I'd look for your tire wear problem.
