stick with SCCA for this sort of thing (or other local club). Present the idea to them, and have them approach wal-mart (or whomever) about the use of the lot.

http://www.ner.org
http://www.nescc.org
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org

To name three that Auto-X at Devens in Ayer...

Then there's
http://www.cartct.com
http://www.fcscc.com

Both that would be closer to you in CT/NY.

When they say insurance... it would be EVENT insurance, not your own car insurance.

Then you would need cones (and not the ones from the consturction areas of the Mass Pike) and timing equipment... and MANY other things.

Insurance coverage in the millions of dollars is what a normal event entails.

With properly worded waivers, is insurance really needed?

What does scca's insurence cover anyway? surely not the cars...

The waivers protect the people, the insurance protects the property.

Insurance would be very difficult for an individual to get. The SCCA has it because it has "horsepower".

One other way to approach this would be to organize a charity event. Find a local charity of your choice, and approach your local SCCA chapter and ask them about their charitable insurance coverage. I'm fairly certain each region can host one charitable event per year without costing the region any money.

Be prepared however to spend lots of time and energy putting it together, because most likely, you would be the only one working on it.

If you're not willing to put in the time, like everyone else has said, stick to SCCA and other local orgs that already put on events.

Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Waivers and insurance aside, Wal Mart is usually open every day.
