okay, my friend just replaced his distributor cap and now he can't go past 3500 rpm. We reset the ECU, checked the firing order, neither worked, what could be the culprit and how can it be fixed?

What happens at 3500 RPM?

 

is the check engine light on??? if so a friend of mine had the same problem... one of the connectors were loose check all your connections aropund your t/b...

 

at 3500 rpm it just bounces even if he has it floored it hits 3500, drops to about 3000 and goes back and forth like that

 

if your car is cutting out at 3500 it is running in a limp mode, it should be throwing a code, check your ecu to see what code it is flashing.

 

sorry if I sound like an idiot, but how do I check ECU codes on an 89??
