CRX Guys, how often do you go thru brake pads
I just got my first set of stock oem sized performance brake pads (Hawk HP+) and was wondering how quickly you go thru brake pads.
When i was running wilwoods, brake pads would last forever...just curious how quickly they'll go now.

Depends on what you're doing...
autocross - the pads could last, and last, and last.
track days - Since I don't do these more then a few times a year. So guessing, I'd say every 2nd or 3rd track day, but I learned the hard way... always have a spare set of front pads, brake fluid, tools and bleeding kit handy.
Road racing - no experience... yet.

When I was racing the ITA CRXs, I'd figure on a full season on the rear . On the fronts I'd expect about 2 weekends of double regionals (2 Qual. and 2 race sessions per weekend) . There would be pad left but they were then set back as spares in case something came up. If the weekends were light or you were really wanting to stretch you might get 3 weekends but I have had crumbling issues when running race pads too far. Simply too much other money and extra expense at risk to be cheaping out on pads. No value in throwing away a $1000+ weekend stretching worn pads or ultra-thin tires. Most of what I ran was Hawk Blues after a brake fire with Power Pads. I probably got replaced rotors about every set and a half of pads depending on how they were doing (warpage and grooving).
For HDPEs and lapping days, longevity stretched to 4-5+ weekends when you weren't using the most aggressive pad you could find and when smoothness and flow were more important that absolute last minute braking for passing, etc.
On the street they'd get well over a year and a half on street performance pads as they never saw the heat and extreme stopping from speed.

how long are race weekends?
Last year, with the wilwoods and polymatrix pads, i did 3 track events at an hour each, and roughly 15-18 autocrosses with 9 runs average each autocross and still had some pad life. Plus, drove it about 700 miles on the street.

For me, it is for a single race weekend, which has a 15 min practice, two 20 min qualifying, and a 30 min race. So about 1.5 hours per weekend times 3, so I estimate about 4.5 hours of use.
The track you are at can make a huge difference too, as well as your driving style, how much speed are you carrying into the braking zone. These are just the numbers that I have become acustomed to with my car.

good, exactly what i was looking for!
I'm planning on doing the following, praying i don't have to shell out another $80 in three weeks:
10/2/03 - 2.2 mile road course, HPDE type event (115mph tops)
10/3/03 - 2.3 mile road course, HPDE type event (unknown, road course was recently extended)
10/4/03 - autocross
10/5/03 - autocross
I'm hoping i don't need new pads for a 11/1/03 event.
Thanks again!
