Default Apexi n1 troubles

I just bought a N1 catback for my 95 lude. I had it on one day, then it rained. The following the day the welds on the rear part of the muffler began to rust. I sandpapered off a small section of the rust . Should I sandpaper the rest off or what should I do. If I sandpaper the rest off won't it just come back the next time it rains? What is a permament fix? thanks

sand, prime, paint.

also if you can find it there are products such as rust stop that will cease the growing of the rust. then you paint over it. look around for it or another similar brand.

all depends on what it is made out of ya know. metal and water generally do not mix.

Man, I ahve heard nothing but BAD things about the N1.

I have a Thermal classic. I painted it..just for the sleeper look. It is stainless steel. Really good quality. nad it sounds SOOO much better than the N1. Also, I don't think the N1 is made of 100% stainless steel...just like the Greddy exhausts.

Did the Thermal Classic come as single or double tip? What about Thermal Stealth?

They also have some extra coating on the piping to help prevent any rusting. Personally I think the N1 sounds awsome (more of like an indy car sound to it, espically in tunnels and in areas where the sound reflects off of buildings). Just lately mine's starting to sound like a civic from 3700 rpm to around VTEC (and sometimes above that somewhat), but only at wide-open-throttle.... so I'm not sure if it's the canister going bad, an exhaust leak in flex-pipe area (tried to check but hard with 1 person), or something to do with the noise in my engine (sounds like a valve took a ****)

I've had my N1 for about a year and I have not seen any rust develop. Maybe there were hairline cracks in the welds? Once you clean it off, let us know what you find out. Good Luck!

The Classic only came in a single tip for the 4th Gen Preludes and dual tips for the 5th gens

Actually I like the sound of them, deep and throat-ee. My old manager had one on his 99 Civic Si and it sounded sweet.

dunno if any of you care... but rust isn't caused by water directly...It's because of the imurities like NaCl, that dissolve in the water on your car, and those impurities conduct the electrons that are needed to oxidize your metal.

many times, they use cheap wire when welding and its the cheap wire that you see as rusting.. not sure on yours

but if they use the cheap stuff, it dont take long before the cheap stuff rust.. the canister is SS yeah but the welding maybe halfass
