well today it poured in yonkers
several streets overflooded but I lent the car
to my friend that doesnt know nothing about cars
well my car is has an AEM CAI with a bypass valve
and you are not suppossed to drive thru puddles in wich I forgot to mention.
but thank god I have the bypass valve no damage even after he
went thru a river.

yeah im like that too!
a car is like your wife you dont lend it to nobody
but in this case it was an emergency
92 gsr that only my brother allowed to drive
91 gs CAI
90 gs dropped 2 1/4 so anything could happen to the oil pan.
so that car was the only choice.
I blew the engine before due to the CAI when my bypass was on a shelf
arghh!!!
but I had my doubts about the bypass

I never really trusted the flimsy bypass valve I had on...even before it broke into several pieces. Glad to hear your car survived though bro.
Man you are extremely lucky this cat down here had a bypass and he still hydroed his **** but he might not have installed it correctly

how could you go wrong on installation?
maybe to close to the throttle!
and I was skeptical about it since I already had a bad experience
with one on my GSR thank god no foam went into it when it broke on my GSR.
AEM replaced it for free.
so now my CAI is in the 91 GS with the new bypass valve
but it passed the test!!!
oherwise would have to swap to the GSR engine in wich is not ready yet!

It happens, unfortunately. The bypass valves seem to be a hit-or-miss, because I've heard they only work about 50-75% of the time.

Well when some people install they only cut the intake tube and in order for it to work properly they have to cut a section of the piping out not just cut it in half, in SEMA a few years back they did the nsx test and submerged the filter and took the car up to 6k and no hydro.
so your saying that you shouldnt just cut it in half....thats why so many people probably have problems with it....then the intake filter goes to low or somethin???

if you just cut the pipe, there isnt enough air to flow through the valve and then water gets sucked through the main filter.

you're supposed to cut an 1 3/8" out of the pipe, an actual section. I am not positive how it works, but my best guess is that when the filer is submerged, airflow is lost. WHen this happens, the valve opens up and pulls air from the engine bay. When the filter can breath again, the valve closes and the system resumes. Still skeptical about it. I actually have mine in the box in the back of my GS-R. Note - I'm not claiming anything about how this actually works, but it makes sense to me.

I sucked in water about a month ago and wish I had bought the bypass valve. You never think it can happen to you but it can. I got lucky and didnt break nothing thank god.
Never lend out your car, my friend took it "around the block" and ten minutes later he comes flying by with a cop on his ***. 6 points awarded to him for burnouts and doing 85 in a 25. I am just so glad it was my car, cause my parents were really happy when they got the call from the officer saying the car was stolen by my friend. (my parents names are on the registration) As fas as BPV, they are a life saver, i have been through a 12 inch deep flood and had no problem(i obviously has no choice or i wouldn't have gone through.)
