question on getting head milled, and oil pumps
got first question, i just picked up an 88 si, it snapped a camshaft, i have an a6 head thats ready to go in, but i'm thinking i might get it milled for alittle more compression, whats the safest amount i can shave off without worrying about piston to valve clearence? I plan on running the stock y8 headgasket, since everyone says its the thinnest..
also, since it snapped a camshaft i'm thinking it proably lost oil pressure.. so more then likely i'll need to throw in a oil pump, my question is, will any d series one work? i plan on just swapping out the whole front cover rather then take it all apart..
hopefully the main bearins and rod bearings are ok, but i guess i'll know when i start it up if its knocking or not, if its not knocking then i'm not gonna really worry about it i guess.. any words or wisdom is apperciated.. thanks

you can mill it about .015...
In words, that is fifteen thousandths.
I went .020 on my B18A1 head. It is a good way to recieve comp., but you may wanna split the difference in half and get the block faced also.
Just remember that when you do this you retard the cam somewhat.
that is the extent of my knowledge, and I hope someone else jumps in to finish the details on this. You will also have to remember that higher Comp ratio requires higher octane in many cases. For Compensation You could retard the ignition timing from the cam, but you'll basically defeat the purpose.
Just trying to help.

yeah i'm not sure i really want to face the block yet because its still in the car and i'd have to take it out, i figured about .015 would be good enough, and yes i've heard that it does retard the timing alittle, i usually run 89-93 octane it just depends on the price.. thanks for the help
