EGR block off plate
WHp has them and what are the potential benifits? My EGR code is going off and I wanted to know if I could get rid of it this way...I tried just unpluging the egr valve and resetting the ecu. Any help is appreciated
i dont know what the actual benefits are, but you can just cut a plate out of a aluminum can to block off the port. then you just leave every thing connected and you wont get any CEL's. there was abig post about this a few months ago

well i dont have my helms with me at work, but it might mean its going bad. I have a extra egr that i can sell

Try checking the vacuum lines and wiring to the EGR valve. Also check the vacuum control valve for the EGR valve.

i took mine out but i have a hondata so i dont need it with my p72 ecu.
u will throw a light if u take it off.. i hear that u can soder in a resister between the 2 plugs that ones on the egr valve to fool it but havnt heard anything latly. i used a fuel pump block off plate from a domestic.. u can get them at auto zone and **** liek that over with all the chrome ****.

The EGR system is there to reduce combustion temps by introducing a contaminant to the intake charge, your exhaust. It's an emissions thing.
The only benefits are a slightly cooler intake temp, but that's not applicable at WOT since the EGR system is only active during part-throttle driving/crusing. The other benefit is the fact that you are removing a system that really isn't needed if performance is your only mindset. It's one less system that is "taking up space" and could potentially throw a CEL.
One problem you may have if you are throwing an EGR CEL is extreme buildup of carbon in the intake manifold tract for the EGR. Removing the EGR solenoid and cleaning the deposits should clear the code unless the solenoid is malfunctioning. Like SuperSH said, try checking the vacuum lines for a problem, it may be a quick fix.

I fyou block off the EGR and your OBDII you will get a cell even with it still plugged in.....you need to go OBDI or do the work around

Even if you block or even unplug it on obd2 or obd1 you will get the engine light. The only way to go past the engine code is to go with a p28 ecu or even a engine manigment of some kind that you can eliminate sensors. With the p13 and p72 the ecu is looking for the egr and if it is not working or has been blocked off it will give you a code because it is originaly used on that motor and programed in to the ecu.

Thats the problem I think I am having....But is there any other way to clean the EGR tract of IM without taking it off and hosing it down with brake cleaner?????

Honestly, I couldn't think of a way of cleaning it without removing it, unless you could put a vaccum cleaner tip close to it while you chisled it out. How many miles are on it? It may be of a benefit to go ahead and clean the port and modify the intake to flow a little better. Kill two birds with one stone. Also, check and make sure that the EGRvalve isn't stuck closed or open due to buildup, you may not have to take it off at all.
