I have a 1995 Honda Civic H.B. and the reception is garbage, I have even tried a few different head units. I came across an amplified antenna and I was just curious if these things really work. I thank you all in advance for your help.

 

Don't know about the amplified antenna, but you should check your connections at the antenna and wire, and see what condition the wire is in all along the way - maybe also there's some power lines running beside it?

Amplified antennas do work. However, they will amplify the entire signal (be it noise or otherwise).

 

from my experience amplified antenna's a waste of money.. check your ground chances are you have a bad ground.. be it at the antenna base, the radio. maybee the radio's tuner is going bad..

 

Thank you all for your replies. I have not taken the antenna all the way out to check for breaks in the lead, however I have inspected the antenna lead (as much of it as I can see). The real weird part is when I bought the car it had a pioneer head unit that was a couple of years old, and it got decent reception. In December I put in a brand new Alpine cda-7893 and the reception has been total crap, except for that rare day where the radio reception gods look down and feel sorry for me.
