84 prelude ?
People are always so quick to ask what should my 1st mod be?
I say....spend any necessary money on making sure the car is a good runner and safe to drive.(tune up, tires, brakes)
From there....mods will be tough for your 2nd gen Lude.

nice to bump into another 2nd genner, welcome aboard!
For mods, it depends where you want to go. Handling? Show? Speed? For any of those routes, i would suggest heading over to http://www.preludepower.com and checking out the 2nd gen forum, its quite popular. There are alot of peeps there who know the 83-87 inside and out, its a really good resource. Check it out.

Yes you can put Vtec, there isnt alot of parts for the 2nd gen, your pretty much SOL less you go and get a complete front end from a H22 prelude (1993 - 2001 Vtec SH or Base Model ludes) 1993-1996 Vtec, 1997-2001 Base and SH all have the H22 which is the Vtec engine you are speaking of. It can be swapped in, but it will cost you...if you want a fast car save your money and buy a newer Prelude, dont get me wrong, I love all ludes and I am not telling you to get rid of her, keep her and keep her running well, but sqave your money and buy a 4th or 5th gen lude and save youself alot of time trying to make something that wasnt meant to be fast, fast.
Best pf luck in your search and welcome to the site
