Default modified strut brace for subwoofer

Ok i thought maybe some other people would like to see my project as I have recently completed it. I fabricated the box myself and had rhino lining put on it.

I then drilled small holes in the strut brace to run the wiring though to hide it and clean it up a bit. It came out very well. 2 10" polk subs are awesome. It was gonna be 1, but they are buy one get one free at crutchfield.

so after many hours and much work I am done.

let me know what you think.

the speakers being pushed into the back of the seats doesnt seem to affect the sound quality at all.

it comes out rather easily just put the seats down and unhook a couple wires.

i live in indianapolis (racing capitol of the world) and i dont know where to get it on a road course here.

there are drags at IRP all the time but i think they are boring.
thanks for the compliments.

the alpine amp is currently hooked to the preouts on a 4 channel under the driver. I have to highly recommend focal component speakers for anyone looking to put new speakers in.

BTW i still have a factory head unit. i have had 3 stereos stolen and i need to move to get another.

Let me say this, getting wires though that bar and still having room for the bolts was not fun.

Looks good

The only thing I would have done differently is to run the cables through the bottom of the strut bar instead of the top, but it looks like your box does not leave you the room to do so

[edit] On second look, I really like that since it positively secures the sub box. I keep worried that my box in the wagon is going to flop over during some particularly aggressive driving, but the 6x9 speaker boxes keep it wedged in pretty good. [/edit]

the bar pinches it pretty tightly to keep it from moving/rattling.

i thought hiding them under there but it just wasnt working out.

Looks great except for the white wire loom.....bleah.
(Hope that's not masking tape) Why white?

Dr Pooface has a "similar" setup in his car - except his has one gigantic 15" sub that wrecks your head.

Comes out for the track too!

Nice, but just so you know you might get better sound if the box is in the far rear of the car or in the corner

it sounds just fine where its at. I would have put it different, but i wanted it unobtrusive and protected.

however why would it sound better if it was further back? Low frequencys are non directional.?

It depends on your definition of "better."

Facing the subs into the car, as you have them, will result in a deeper sound. Facing them rear-wards would result in a much boomier sound.

Mine fire toward the rear and they sound immeasurably better that way, but your set-up is very cool for practicality's sake. I wish my 'box were that compact, that's one of the reasons I elected not to get a rear strut bar.

I would of fired them to the rear, but I like your setup. Too many people around here don't like the bass.

subwoofer placement makes a big difference.

I can add over 5db's from playing with the cross over, phase and placement in my gsr.

well, i just made it to fill in where my other speakers drop off. I dont listen to it very loud at all. so the protection is better for me.

thats good to know that it can make a difference like that. for the future that is

Theres Putnam Park up in northern Indiana and you're not terribly far away from Mid-Ohio either. not sure about west of you, but I'll bet theres something. Here's Putnam Park's website.

i am sad to see these subs firing directly into the seatbacks... the basic priciple is that bass is created by moving air, if there is no air in front of the subwoofer to move than the sound will really suffer. it probibly sounds very muffled like that.
