Vibration, Help?
Alright, i have a 96' gsr, just recently a vibration started comming from the passenger side. It really shakes the car bad, like the shifter stick goes crazy too. It happens like between 4k and up. The axles look fine and i was thinking possible motor mounts, but im not sure, any suggestions? Thanks Adam
i'd check the simple things first, like the balance and roundness of the tire. Tires can throw weights and that will cause a vibration, and they can go out of round, that will do the same. Try moving that tire to the back and see how it drives.
Does it change when you're on the gas vs. coasting in gear? Does it change with road speed - say at the same rpm in different gears? Does it change if you apply the brakes (without disengaging the clutch)?
be more specific with that vibration...does it only happen when you're moving up through the rpm range or does it happen constantly? does it happen when you brake? short guessing it, i'd say ck the tires first. that can def have an impact.
Thanks guys for your sugesstions, tryin to be more specific. The vibration only happens when acellerating, like if i start going (the vibration is happen at this point) then if i were to get off the gas the vibration goes away, or aleast isnt nearly as bad. I had just reaplced the tires as well, so possible they could have fucked up the wieghts and that could be it, im gonna rotate the tires and see what effect that has. Let me know if you guys have any more suggestions. Thanks again guys, Adam

Another suggestion to clarify something. Does it follow engine speed or road speed? Accelerate from 4k to 5k rpm in 2nd gear, then from 4k to 5k in 3rd, then 4th... This way you're at the same engine speed at different road speed.
If it goes with engine speed, then look for things like exhaust sytem hitting somewhere, or even misfiring at certain rpms.
If it goes with road speed, then look for loose/worn inner drivers, bad CV joints, wheel bearings, tires, etc...

Its def. a vibration, not a rattle. Alright say im driving on the highway, im on the on ramp accelerating. at like 4k rpm 3rd gear, flooring it, its vibriting, shift to 4th still virbating. and same in 5th. If im just crusing on the highway at whatever speed, no vibration. If i try to accelerate at any speed, any gear it virbrates. And to claify the vibration shakes the whole car, mostly in the passger side front wheel area.
What about the RATE of vibration? Is it the same at 4krpm, no matter what gear you're in? That tells you whether it's anywhere in the wheels, brakes, or driveshafts. Because the wheels & axles spin faster when you're in the higher gears.
Misfiring under load? Check your plugs, wires, cap, stuff like that... Do you have low compression in one cylinder?
Originally I was kinda guessing driveshafts or tire problems, but those would vibrate at a higher rate with higher road speed.
