Either Starter is going out or battery which is it, please help
Hello, I don't drive a Type R, but it doesn't take much time in these forums to figure out who has the most brains for B series motors. Obviously it's you Type R folks so please help.
Today, I went the the gas station to fill up. Got done and went to start the car, all I heard was a bunch of clicking. It came from behind the distributor cap, and that's where the starter is. I had to push start the car and made it home. When i got home, I tried starting the car again and it started just fine. Must have turned the car on and off about 15-18 times since it happend and it starts just fine. Of course I'm wishing it's just the battery, but am i being miseld by my wishful thinking?
Question is, when a starter goes out, does it just go out and no longer work, or does it slowly go bad? Should I just replace the starter for safetly sake, don't want to be stuck out one day. I just don't want to replace a part that doesn't need replacing. By the way, the battery is the stock battery that came with the car since August of 99. What do you guys think?

its your starter, the solonoid is going bad.
Just carry a long stick with you and next time your car doesn't start, have someone tap the starter with the stick (beats pushing)
But yeah, replace your starter.

Thanks for the reply
Do you or anyone else know the part number for the starter? I assume all B series starters are the same. Does the whole starter have to be replaced or just the Solonoid? Any help would greatly be appreciated

All b-series starters are not the same. I believe the difference is between the b16 and the b18. The b18's should be the same.

It's the stock motor, 99 Civic Si, b16a.
Man, just got done spending 300.00 on timing belt, wires, plugs, distributor cap, water pump, and mount and now this. really hoping this is not the start of something bad.
