Default short shifter question

I have a B&M short shifter and it rattles. I heard this can be fixed by applying a ball joint. If anyone knows if this is correct let me know and if so, where do i get this? i looked on the site and there is nothing. thanks.

Make sure it's not hitting against the heat shield.

This was my problem with my old integra.

Evidentally there is a rod connected to a plate (please keep in mind this is what the mechanic told me). When i got in my car accident it broke, well it serves no necessary purpose. (From what i've read on this thread it could have been the heat shield?) Anyway, really bad rattling sound from the shifter ever since, guy takes out the plate (or rod can't remember which), says $500 bucks to fix it. I'm like well if it doesn't hurt anything then just leave it alone. Rattling wasn't AS bad after he took out the plate or rod whatever, but it was still there.

May not be related, but it could be.

what would a ball joint have to do with the shifter rattling. The only way i know to fix it is to get a diff shifter 90% of people that have the b&m have the rattling problem. I switched mine to the skunk2.
