Default 4th gen vs 5th gen

Dear people, i am new to this, so please be gentle.
I am thinking of buying a new car, and i love preludes. However, i am still trying to deided between the 4th and 5th generations. I would like to know if there is any difference between the 2.2 VTEC engine in the 4th gen and the 5th gen. Also is there any difference in their 0-60 times, etc. I am also a little practical, and would love your opinions on which would be easier to modify, including things like boot space for my 18" sub. Your help is much appreciated, as I'm sure you are the only people who can actually help me.
Thanks,

Dark Nik.

use the search a lot dude, but because you are new i will recommend a 4th gen, lots of people own them and lots of things that you can do to them. as for engine stuff, i only know about the h22a4 in the 5th gen and the h22 in the 4th gen. Same stuff, i believe, h23 is an engine i don't know about. But, i know for a fact a lot of people will recommend you that what YOU like is what matters. With that said, welcome to honda-tech.

first thing's first, the 4th gen has an closed deck h22 and the 5th has a open deck, as far as mods, they're pretty equal considering they're the same engineas far as space in the trunk for an 18, the 4th gen is DEFINITELY not the way to go, the 5th gen has a lot more trunk space than the 4th, and thr 4th gen vtec a lot of people say has a little bit of an edge than the 5th and the 4th gen is also a smidgen lighter

Thank you, you guys are great and have been very helpful.
I don't really mind about boot space, as long as i can fit the sub in it, and also the two amps that power it. And also maybe a couple of nitrous bottles, but that is way down the line.
I am however a bit confused about the engines? How many different versions of the 2.2 VTEC did they make for the 4th gen and 5th gen? And is DOHC better?

DOHC is waaaaaaaaaaaay better, but they made 2 2.2's, one for OBD1 and OBD2, the OBD1 is the 4th gen (h22a1), OBD2 is the 96+ for the last year of the 4th gen and the whole 5th gen (h22a4) and yes you can fit 2 amps in a 4th gen, i'll show you my set up if you want

Basically the 4th gen VTEC model came with an H22A1 engine it was closed deck and makes 190hp. The 5th gen got a slightly different design so it was called an H22A4 and was claimed to have 195hp, then 200hp by honda marketers.

Despite the power increase the 4th gen VTEC model is stock for stock a faster car. It's somewhat lighter has somewhat better gearing and if you want to compare car and driver times the 4g ran 15.1 and the 5g ran 15.4. Both are excellent handling cars but I give the edge to the 5g because of a stiffer frame.

Both have equal potential. It's really more about which one you think looks better

4th gen uses peak&hold injectors 310cc or 340cc, 5th gen uses saturated injectors 290cc

Yeah but a stock prelude vs. ATTS?

I think you've proven that a heavy prelude can out handle an integra wouldn't you?

Thank you all for your help
I think i will always come here for help once i get my prelude.
If they both handle pretty much the same, and have similar hp figures, then i will probably choose to buy a silver 4th gen. But i may try and get a Jap import, as the UK cars are a bit underpowered according to the stats on http://www.preludecrazy.com
197hp sounds good!! I always liked the 4th gen anyway, but the other day as i was reading a different thread, i saw a red 5th gen with a wicked bodykit! I don't know what bodykit, and i know i should really leave that sort of question for the appearance part of the site.
so thanks again!

Dark Nik

A skidpad is a 200 ft diameter circle that a driver tries to go around as fast as possible. The fast the "lap time" the higher the g's the car pulls.

I like 4g style a lil better but if I had the choice I'd buy a 5g with low miles and be the 1st and last owner.
