Lift for my new garage?
I need to get some type of lift for my new place. Anyone know of some cheapo, but SAFE lifts for residential garages? Where to get them and how much? I would like to stay under $1,000 if possible. I don't need anythng crazy... just something that will lift the car level about 3-4 feet in the air. I won't even mind some type of manual thing... where I have to crank it up or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Preferably something portable too... so when I move I can take it with me if/when that happens.

Keep an eye out for garages that go under. Alot of times you can find a hydraulic actuated, floor mounted lift that can lift a car about 3 ft for about $1500. Otherwise expect to pay between 1700-2000 for the samething.
i hae been looking for a used bendpack lift for a while but it seems that even though they are used they are still woth quite a bit of money .....
my plan is to put it in my driveway so i can work on my customers cars (side jobs) at home ...

harbor freight sells lifts, new and fairly cheap too. Or if you have a contact at a local shop, have the rep that services their lifts get you one. Alot of times the lift service guys sell the older ones that they remove.
Just a quick FYI, if you are going to get a used 2 post hydraulic lift make sure you have the proper concrete pad before it gets installed. I have seen them rip out the floor before.
The two post hydraulic lift is overkill for my garage I think. Plus they are a pretty penny. I was thinking more along the lines of something like this...

Although I would prefer some type of scissor lift so Ic an easily do work on the axles, etc.

yeah, see that's not going to help you if you are doing any work that would require taking the wheels off..
And I think that thing is WAY overpriced for what it is. But if that's what you want, and it's in your budget, then whatever.

Snap-On sells a couple different ones, but as with all things Snap-on. They ain' cheap. In the catalog I have, they show a portalbe scissors type, But I think it's starts at $2500-$3000. Holds 1 1/2- 2 tons.
Try Sears.com as well, I think they sell some small Craftsmen ones.
