Better times... how can I get better?
Ok, I went out to the track last night and ran 22 times! hehe. The track was at 1200 feet. For some reason though, the place where you pick up your slips at got hit by lightning recently, so we had to pickup our slips at the tower... so there was no way to tell the humidity and temp and you couldn't tell what you did differently. Anyway, my best 3 times of the night were the following (for some reason, the 1000' time was always 0, I think it was broken, so I won't post it):
2.369, 6.660, 10.065, 15.463@91.35
2.429, 6.698, 10.102, 15.447@90.99
2.421, 6.727, 10.125, 15.492@91.10
My fastest 60' times were the following:
2.369, 6.660, 10.065, 15.463@91.35
2.371, 6.664, 10.079, 15.500@90.68
2.393, 6.663, 10.092, 15.525@89.96
And my fastest trap speeds were the following:
2.522, 6.803, 10.203, 15.561@91.88
2.466, 6.736, 10.139, 15.507@91.56
2.521, 6.817, 10.223, 15.598@91.49
This is all stock. I did what you guys recommended by lowering the front tire pressure. The first 3 runs I did, I lowered it to 30 (I kept the rear at 45). Then after my 3 runs, I checked the pressure and since the tires had heated up, it read 33... so I lowered it to 25. I then did about 6 or 9 runs and checked the pressure again and it read 30 (more heat I guess). So I lowered it to 25, and did a few more runs. I didn't lower it below 25.
A few questions:
1. Can I improve my 60' time? I tried launching in different ways. Even at the lower tire pressure (around 25) I would still get a lot of wheel hop if I dropped it (tried ranges from 3k to 5.5k, always caused wheel hop if I dropped it). So I started to feather it a bit... I'd let it out a little on the start until it sort of hooked up then I'd drop the rest of the clutch. This seemed to work a little better. For my shifting, I just kept my foot on the throttle and I'd push the clutch in almost all the way.
2. A person at the tracks who had a del Sol recommended that I pull out the intake pipe (the rubber piece) off of the intake manifold for better airflow. I ran like this the whole night... does this help or hurt anything?
3. Should the pressure be around 22-25 psi on hot tires or cold? And should the rear be all way up to 45?
15.4 is a significant improvement from 16.0... but I still think I can do better. Let me know what you guys think.

Hey whats up man...were you the guy with the yellow Type R?
I was driving the black Civic HX.
I didnt realize that your 60 ft times were so bad (no offense).
On street tires..you should be able to pull a 2.2x which would help out some.
Im not sure what I can really recommend for some better 60 ft times..it just takes practice. When you were getting wheel hop..were you letting off afterwards or still hammering it hard?
Ive found that in the past even when I get wheel hop and alot of tire spin in 1st...I still managed to pull a 2.2x 60 ft by just still holding on and then shifting to 2nd at redline (or a little earlier..like 6500)

HX_Guy what's up man. Didn't realize that was you. No offense taken... I thought my 60' still needed improvement too. When I was getting wheel hop, I was still flooring it and the clutch was out all the way.
CPR yes, that's correct. I'm talking about the hose.

I don't know about cars as much as I would like but I would think that taking off the hose from the intake manifold will be dangerous to your motor. What if you suck up something into the manifold like a small pebble? Wouldn't that spell disaster?
so you took the intake piping off at the Throttle Body??? Dont do that again. that would hurt more than it would help. If you are going to do anything to your intake you should remove the resonator box that is located in the passenger side of the front bumper.

Not to mention that there is a loss in power due to the turbulent air flow and you are sucking in warmer air, not cool air.
I'm going to SIR tomorrow... not sure what kinda times I'm gonna pull there though... I think the track is at 2300 or 2400 ft. It's usually cooler though (obviously, cuz of the altitude). And I think Sept. 5th a bunch of us are meeting up at SpeedWorld.

SIR = Southwestern International Raceway and is located south-east of Tucson near the fairgrounds. From Phoenix, it's about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive depending on how fast you go. There are less imports there though. There are a lot of full drag cars (lots of sub 13's, like 9's, 10's, etc). Every now and then a few funny cars race and do like 7's (
). It's kinda cool to watch, but the officials never match them against you. There are 8 lanes, and they tell the imports usually to stay in lanes 6 & 7 I think. I think the track is a lot better than SpeedWorld, but SpeedWorld is lower in elevation. The officials are carefull about the waterbox, and they clean out all the rubber from the starting line almost every single race. I'd show up early though, around 9 & 10pm it gets pretty crouded and can take up to 30min just to get one run in.
