How much to get door handles shaved?
Does anyone know about how much it costs to get the door handles shaved on a PY Type-R? I was thinking about it, but thought it might be pretty expensive.
ICY HOT! ROTFLMAO!
Well, I looked into shaving the licence plate nubs off my USDM front bumper cover - $600. Needless to say, they're still on.
"If it doen't make you go faster - you probably don't need it." - ?

RICE!!!!!
why don't you just save up and buy hydralics and some 50 spoke bling blings for the R instead?

I was actually asking because it would be a theft deterant (sp?). I had looked at replacing the door handles with with the back door handles off a 4-door Integra, but then people suggested shaving it instead (yes, people on this board).
Glad to see everyone is so friendly here...

Is he doing anything to your car? I don't think so. So he can do whatever he wants to his property. And why do we need key wholes? Do we really use them? He's just being simple, not ricy. He's taking out something he doesn't need, and it affects appearance in a good way. People enjoy driving cars that look good, and he wants to do that.
dmfare (who thinks we should have a standard on the definition of rice)
Oh...now I just figured out that he means the door handles and not the key wholes...
I still say it's not rice...Go for it!

I'm with TypeC on this one. Rice is not shaving your doorhandles.
Rice is an exageratted body kit, aluminum wing, huge chrome wheels, vinyl graphics, 5 inch fart-can on an automatic car, Altezza tails, Sylvia headlight conversions, scooped c/f hoods (not oem style), Huge monster tach on an automatic 20 second accord, etc.
A lot of you guys weren't even into cars 5 years ago. So dont be so quick point fingers!

rice or not, you might get frowns from any orginization (nasa, scca, nira, etc...) if you try and race a car with no door handles.. it might make it harder to extract you after an accident..

Shaved doorhandles doesn't neccserally fall into the "rice" category. But it just seems that alot of guys with little or no car background, buy a Type R and are suddenly endowed with "tremendous knowledge". Probably the ugliest facet of Type R's, are ignorant new-jack owners that think they're superior. Doesn't bother me one bit. Cuz as much as I like R's and Honda's. I'm yet to see a Type R I cant pull TWO GREYHOUND BUSLENGTHS on in the 1/4. And yes I've raced a Turbo Teg. And I only pulled ONE GREYHOUND BUS on him.
Calm down man, these guys were just joking around. I would say its probably pretty damn expensive and if its a theft deterent your better off renting a garage b/c it would be a little more useful.
**** RICE!!! what the **** is "rice", thats all u hear "rice this rice that". GSX has the best quote...."EVERYTHING IS RICE". HOLY **** JUST LET PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY ****** WANT.
I shaved the door handles on my 2nd gen. The reason its so expensive to do is because they have to actually weld a piece of metal on the hole where the handle was at, then grind the welds, fill, then paint. They have to be carefull not to warp the metal around the area, or it will look like crap. Then you need the door actuators to open them. There has to be an outside switch incase your alarm battery goes dead, and alot of people know if you have shaved handles, there has to be a secret button. Im all for the shaved handles, but too costly. Onyx has the right idea with the back door handles. At least $800 each side. Plus its hard to find a good bodyman to do the job. Shaved handles are not a lowrider thing.
I would say that the cost would be exorbidantly expensive, unless repairs to the doors were warranted previously.
You could always leave the handles, disconnect the latch internally so it doesn't work and install the actuators so you can open&close your doors with your remote, if increased protection/security is desired - but then you might as well weld the doors to the frame and get in your car Dukes of Hazzard style. yaaaaahoooo

I really don't want to get in the "rice" debate but I will say that a fire extinguisher in the car is a good idea. Not mounted to the A pillar so everone can see, just where you can get to it here's why:
I watched my friends 1974 Toyota Corrolla burn to a crisp from a spark in the dash from the stereo hot wire. It started as a very small flame that we could see inside the dash, about the intensity of a cigarette lighter. We ran inside the building (this was in our HS parking lot) and by the time we came back out (5 min or so because they kept asking "what do you need a fire ext. for?") it was engulfed in flames.
So after that I kept one in my 77 turbo Z (hybrid) and I almost got to use it. I blew the motor up and the engine bay was on fire! So I ran to the door and grabbed the fire ext. from behind the seat and just when I got to the engine bay and pointed it at the fire, the flames went out. Oh well at least I was prepared.
Oh and I don't carry one in my ITR incase you were wondering.
