Hunting idle, missing, damn ignition prooblems too! WTF!?!
I have a 94 GSR. Oh yeah. Imagine that. It's green. I have problems. I am having idle hunting problems but not all the time. It fluctuates about 300rpm at idle when it does it. It also fluctuates when held at higher rpm. It was alot worse before I tightened down my fuel rail, there was a leak between the NOSzzles and manifold. Sprayed starting fluid around them and no idle change now. Also it seems to be missing. When checking timing with a gun it doesn't always flash consistantly, even when the idle isn't fluctuating. This seems to me like a vacum leak but I can't find one, maybe just don't know where to look. And on to the third problem which might actually be just part of one problem, I don't know
. I installed a Accel ignition system before I realized it wasn't always firing and it kept causing an ecu code. When checked the light flashes 9 times. My crappy Haynes book doesn't list an OBD1 code 9 but says that for ODB2 that is some kind of crank position sensor. I know. I need a Helm's. Back to stock ignition and no check engine light. (waited for months to hear from Accel on that one and all they sent me was installation instructions for a distributor in a domestic push-rod engine WTF!?!WTF!?!WTF!?!) Please, any suggestions or questions. I am going insane.
Okay, I need help. I can admit it. I can't fix everything by myself. Damn, never thought I'd say that. ****, did I say that out loud? I wonder if anyone heard me.

Well it sounds as if u got more than one problem. If u say ur idle got better after tightening the fuel rail, than chances are u had a vacuum leak. Spray the rest the engine with air intake cleaner and if the idle changes u know u found a leak. Also check coolant level. Sometimes low coolant level or even air in the cooling system can cause the idle to flucuate. Consult a service manual on how to check the crank position sensor, I will probably ask u to perform a resistance test using an ohmeter. As for the ignition timing, u have to jump the short connector under the right side kickpanel area, this puts the ecu into base mode. Set the ignition timing to the red mark on the crank pulley, check the idle speed and move the distributor accordingly and unplug ur jumper wire and ur done. Check for the obvious such as loose vacuum hoses, connectors, bad spark plugs, bad ignition wires. Hope this helps, please let me know how it goes! Thank you and Have a Great day! Sanj
