Default nhra muffler/exhuast rule???

I was reading the rules and it seems for every class but the hot rod and pro classes have to rule a muffler and have to exit after the rear wheels. How do u guys get away with running open downpipe/header? If the open downpipe/header is permitted in et and bracket, is it permitted in sport fwd? Would a downpipe that exits out the side of my front bumper be legal in any class besides pro and hot rod classes?

I was thinking about making my downpipe come out the side of my front bumper but wanted to make sure i can still run my car in the sport fwd class.

You do have to have Exhaust W/ a muffler behind the tires in the sport classes.

The CMI events don't care of you have an exhaust on if you race in the brackets. I would think at NHRA events they wouldn't care either. As stated above, a "street" (heads-up) class would probably require a full exhaust system.

Where did you read this rule? Can you quote it?

this is the rule from nhra sport fwd:

Exhaust:
All exhaust must flow through functioning muffler(s); must exit
behind rear tires. Any vehicle that did not come equipped with a
muffler(s) from the factory permitted, provided complete,
unmodified (except for header) OEM exhaust system is utilized.

this is the rule for et bracket:
Exhaust:
All cars competing in E.T. Bracket classes must be equipped with
functioning muffler(s). Any vehicle that did not come equipped with
a muffler(s) from the factory permitted, provided complete,
unmodified (except for header) OEM exhaust system is utilized.

you can run open header or down pipe in brackets, not in sport classes. But if saturday has noise restriction you need a muffler on a header. Jason
