Default music and motorcycling - lovin it.

Etymotic ER-6 - in ear headphones. excellent sound isolation, superb audio quality.

Iriver IMP-550 CD / MP3 / FM tuner - excellent so far. goes in jacket inner pocket, remot clips in jean pocket. easy enough to control with gloves on.

maybe its just me being a music nut, but cruising around with good tunes just adds to the experience.

the ER-6 isolate sound well enough so you dont have to turn it up to hear the music even on the highway. plus you dont want it blaring in your ear anyway- that definitely can be distracting. but its just good background tunes just in case you run out of songs stuck in your head to hum along to. i know you all do it too, when you get a song in your head and you're humming it in your own little world behind that full face helmet.

not recommended for canyon carving, but for commuting it gets

might build a circuit to mix the music feed with the radar audio alerts. hmm. sounds like i need a tankbag...

Actually, I just sing at the top of my lungs. It's not like anyone can hear me. =D

It's the end of the world when an FJR needs a tankbag!! What're those saddle-bag-things for???

j/k

I never thought I'd really need a tankbag, but I bought one on a whim, and I've been using it constantly ever since. It's so much easier when I just need to grab something quickly (dropping off a rental movie, credit card at the gas station, etc).

How goes the radar detector mount?

I use my Motorola FM headset that plugs into my cell phone. Riding while listening to music rocks.

Holy CRAP - Those things are $140???

How is the sound quality? I have a IPOD I use for music, but I cannot find headphones that work well under the helmet

yep. they are expensive...i actually own a pair of Sennheiser headphones that cost 2x that - and they need their own amplifier! so the cost is acceptable to me... plus i've been using these constantly since i got them. i use them at work, and when i wanna listen to some tunes before i pass out etc.

the sound quality is excellent. er-6 and an ipod would be a powerful portable setup. just remember these things fit like earplugs so you have to be able to get comfortable with that. for the 1st week i couldnt get the left one to seat without any irritation. now its fine.

one of the other guys i ride with uses this little thing that clips over his ear. its pretty neat. i'll ask him where he got it. but it looks tricky to put the helmet on. but there isnt really any other product like the ER-6 thats below $100...

as far as legality, its illegal almost everywhere to have headphones while operating a motor vehicle. some areas earplugs might be illegal too.

problem is I have developed tinnitus, real hearing loss (constant ringing), from riding my motorcycle. I WILL have something in my ears any time i go on a ride that exceeds 45mph. which is damn near every time.

shoei rf-900 helmet and god awful rumble of the air spilling over the short windshield of my old bike. new bike isnt nearly as bad, but i'm not taking any chances ever again.

my ears just might be really sensitive or something. i have peculiar hearing abilities compared to most people.

like what? the whirr of the suv tire thats 3 feet to my right?

Dallas has concrete, and rubber tires on concrete make a high pitched whine unlike anything i've ever heard. Florida was all asphalt and it was a much lower rumble. but i can still tell where a vehicle is just by the sound of the tires.

what other sounds should i be listening for? without anything stuck in my hears i dont hear anything except a deafening roar. if you mean emergency vehicles, i'd bet i see them a lot sooner than i hear them.

its amazing how little the cops / ambulances use sirens around here. just lights. plus they can control the ligths so they turn red except the direction they are going, so its not likely i would be riding through an intersection i have a green light for and encounter a vehicle with sirens and lights blaring.

i agree thoguh. when i am in an unfamiliar area, i dont plan on playing music. cause i want to hear that thrain whistle etc.

Is this when you're just walking around?

Yeah, I always get stares from people. I think the cabbage patch gets their attention...at least I've learned to curb my macarena.

Man, it's hard to concentrate riding with the music on. I use my chatterbox and an external Mp3 player
