Default 5th gear grind...

Everytime I shift into 5th gear I get a nasty grind. It still goes in but it makes this horrible sound. Also, it only happens at high rpms 5 and above. I even tried shifting really slow with the clutch all the way in and it still grinds. Is it the clutch, or do I need the tranny fluid changed, thats the only thing I can think of. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Most likely the synchro, but try to change the tranny fluid first to see if it helps.

I agree.

Im willing to bet it is the 5th gear synchro going out on you. a few suggestions.

Try changing your tranny fluid with Honda MTF, and see if tie grind is still there. if it is, drain the MTF and go with GM synchromesh tranny fluid and see if the grind is still htere, if it is, then the only fix would be to replace the synchro.

You would have problems in all gears if the clutch was going out. I am going to have to go with the group and say synchros.

My 5th was grinding real bad, and then I attended a track day and it went away. Weird huh?

Anything wrong with just living with the grind if it comes back? I don't often get the opportunity to hammer it into 5th anyways.

Not that weird. Synchos wear themselves and if your grind was caused by a burr or somethign on the synchro, that could have been worn down from the track day.

I had a 5th gear grind which wore itself out after 3 months.
