question about milling a b18c1 head
Here is my question. I blew my headgasket and may have possibly warped the head. I do not believe that the head was ever milled but I need to know what is the farthest that the shop can take it down or even mill it at all without having any problems with the valves and etc. Anyone here ever have this done? Oh and by the way does $40 sound like to much to get the head milled? Thanks for all the help in advance guys!
The price is OK and alot of the guys have it done. I wouldn't take it down as far as you can though, and you don't have to take shots in the dark, just check it for square by putting a sturdy metal yard stick diagonally across the head and trying slip a feeler gauge between the head and the measure. If there's not a huge problem then take nothing off or just a few thousandths to clean it up. If you go nuts with the mill you may regret it later and it cannot be undone. Plus you'll then have to take up a bunch of slack with your timing belt tensioner and correct your valve timings. If you want to bump your compression a little bit then toss a thinner head gasket in there when you put it back together, that CAN be undone later if your plans change...and don't they always?
Good luck bro.
Good luck bro.
