Default fuel filter, worth it?

I am getting my timing belt and wp replaced by my mechanic, do I need to change
the fuel filter also ? it's not expensive....
My owner's manual doesn't say anything about fuel filter
will it improve the mileage if we change the fuel filter ?
btw my car is an auto
Thx

Default Re: fuel filter, worth it? (ddua)

All your fuel filter does is filter out particles and water from entering the the engine and harming your engine. If your fuel filter gets clogged then your car wont start, or will barely start.

The negative effect of not changing the filter is that as it gets clogged the pump has to work harder to push fuel down the lines, and therefore increasing wear and tear.

SO if its never been changeed then you may as well do it, but if its been changed before then i wouldnt bother.

You will not notice any difference in performance or mileage by changing the fuel filter.
