Which head would work better???!!

Default Which head would work better???!!

hey guys, im puttin a vtec head on my 99 hatch (d16y7) which head in your opinion would be better? i want realibility, i want it to be quick but nothing amazing. im lookin at a d16y8 head and manifold or a d16z6 head and manifold.. which would you guys choose? what are the advantages and disadvantages to both?

i would choose the y8 head and IM... the y8 mani has better flow characteristics than the z6. and since your car is OBD2, i think there may be compatibility issues with the z6.

I can talk because I used to have a SOHC VTEC motor.
When it comes to swapping SOHC heads, you do not have to worry about being quick or amazing, because you will not be either... w/o forced induction.

faster than it is now.. could i use a y8 manifold and a z6 head? or would it be better to stick with the y8 head-y8manifold/z6 head-z6 manifold?

you can use a y8 IM and z6 head don't know if the other way is better though

you can use the y8 head and a z6 manifold.... the z6 and y8 IMs are fairly close to each other.. though the y8 flows a bit better on the top end if i remember correctly

Y8 works great. Good to turbo with too. relitively smooth air flow.
