Default LS/VTEC question

Hey guys,

I'm new to the whole engine swap .... LS/VTEC thing and i was just wondering about something.

My ultimate goal is to build something along the lines of an LS/VTEC. I'm currently running on my B18B 98RS stock engine. I don't really like the idea of all the work that needs to go into building an LS/VTEC and I'd rather make an effort to not waste a perfectly good non-vtec head. Heres my question...

Is it possible to build an LS/VTEC getting a JDM B16A1, and getting a stroker kit for it? Like a nice knife-edged crank and rods that will get the displacement up to 1.8L. I know machine shops offer cranks and rods. Would this not be the same as if I put a B16A1 head and pistons on my LS?
If it is the same ... will the stroker B16A1 work with my existing LS tranny? Oh, and one more thing ... should I be worried about the stock pistons? ... will they handle the extra displacement?

long post ... thanks for reading!!! :D

Your non vtec b18 head is worthless. get a B16 head and keep your block, tap for oil line to your head and maybe build it somewhat. That is good HP and TQ. B16 stroked or bored is worthless as well. Ls/Vtec is a great combo if done right.

cools .... thanks for the info
just wondering cause i just finished reading an article about a stroked b16 which uped the displacement to 1.8L ... made similar numbers to LS/Vtec

stroker motors have reliability isses... just bore the motor out and sleeve it, a much better way to up displacement!

reliability issues ussualy come from a poor r/s ratio. thats why my friend used custom shorter pistons with a higher wrist pin. that way he used his LS rods and it wasnt all bad

this is much better than the crappy low 1.4 rod ratio engine in the magazine. crap. this setup allows you to have 2.0 liters, in a b16 block, while retaining the 1.54 ls/crv rod ratio.

i have two sets left. these are my design, and made for me by arias. they are 85mm, made for a sleeved b16a block, with a ls crank and rods. the rod must be bushed from .826 down to .708 (or you can buy rods from me already done) the compression is 11.5 to 1 with a b16a head with a 43cc chamber (unmilled) i designed these to run a pump without detonation. it took a while to get the design right to make em fit. we have these running in street cars. almost 230 whp on a dynojet w/ skunk stg 2's and good bolt ons, without itb's and on a stock ecu with 280cc inj.

they come with 1-1.2-2.8 ring grooves and custom aluminum buttons to support the oil rings. this was necessary after moving the pin up to accept a stock length rod. the forgings have dedicated valve reliefs aka "hollow domes"..its actually hollow under the relief, you can see in the picture. i also had maximum internal milling done to make these VERY LIGHT. 255 grams (shelf 85mm is 320 grams). very strong, very streetable. .

so...in layman's terms....its a 1mm overbored b20 stuffed in a b16a block, and it still retains the 1.54 ls rod ratio. total displacement is 2.02L......a true 2 liter. mean sleeper engine. im if interested...and they ain't cheap!
