hmmm, well seeing as how you are a novice, maybe it would be wiser for your sponsor to deal with a legitimate racer. please forward them my contact info
all kidding aside. even street class competition these days is cut throat and it would be near impossible for a top car to be regularly driven on the street.
for this upcoming season credible cars will have to go high 9's in the turbo class and low 11's all motor.

in the right place at the right time. i picked up a sponsorship and all i ever did was street race. now i have to live up to the expectation of the sponsor at the track. man i need some seat time
Well how i got the sponsor is my dads fiance's son has a business that is doing well and he just came up to me and asked how would u like to be sponsored to race? i being a novice like you said was shocked but at the same time very fortunate...sorry bout all the legitimate racers w/o sponsors but i just happened to be in the right place in the right time....but back to the project at hand, my sponsor wants to know what kind of money we are talking and where can i get info for the street class...ie whats allowed what isnt....thanks all
to build a car from the ground up not including the price of the car. you are talking at least 15k and thats with no labor... probably another 5k to build the engine and have it installed. So thats just a rough estimate of 20k to get started. then over the course of the season, youll need to estimate another 10k in travel expenses and minor parts breakage. youll also need a truck and trailer.

maybe all motor. boost could cost 10K more to be competitive.

building the car is just step 1.......nearly anyone can do that
dont forget about these things too;

Theres the key right there, you can build the car for maybe 35,000...maybe if you want to do it with the right parts. But those parts dont last for ever. For a season of racing your looking at least 15,000 and thats living at motel 6's and what not. Starting from nothing, I think you would need to ask for 50,000 for 1 year.

no way, i could spend 10k on just a motor, manifold,dp and engine. what about ALLL the other stuff you need to prep the car, wheels, slicks, fuel system, suspension etc.

This topic will never fly, Each scenario costs different prices, theres so mabny different variables, theres no true answer. And you can buy a million dollars worth of motors, and blow each one up every run if u have no idea what yer doing.. One must learn how to crawl before walk.. One step at a time..

yeah thats true.. we all know what we are doing so those are $'s based off of that.
a newbie will spend over 100k easy due to their lack of experience and paying the price of the learning curve.

Matt Hartford got his sponsorship before he even had a cavalier. His engine builder had not even seen an Eco-tech motor b4. 8 weeks later..... out popped a race car competing in its first event. The differenece is he already had an engine builder, chasis builder, etc.... lined up for the project. Ask for 50-100k otherwise your racing season will end after you blow up your first $10k + motor. And that will get you started.
I totally respect what you guys are saying and i guess my question now is, where should I start? i have a sponsor that is willing to help but isnt gonna drop 30+K on my car right away....where can i look to get started...i e what would you recomend i star in, not be competative but respectable start and keep me on the track longer than 1 round so i can get the exp needed to pursue and do well in this sport...thanks again...like you put it, now i realize i must crawl, i only hope someone can help guide me in the right direction
Look at it this way. Ive been racing for I guess 7 years now. Ive gone from 16's back in the day to soon 11's I dont want to try to figure what I have spent.
Your first step is to decide n/a, turbo or nos.
If you built a proper set up, Your easily looking at 15k just engie. You want something that is tough and strong. there are alot of VERY smart guys here on H/T so take advise and listen wisely. DO it right the first time and hopefully you wont have to blow a engine every time you go to the track. You MUST have a AMAZING tuner to run high whp numbers and be reliable.
I say either way , Get your block sleeved, balnce it, port and polish the head, do your entire valve train, get a good clutch, bump up the ignition, get a good engine mangamnet set up, hondata/aem will be fine, furesure, full coil over set up!
Now alot depends on what you want. You cant really do fuel untill you decide what whp you want to run, then you can get the proper cc and a in tank pump as a start (255 holly), exhaust will also depend on what you gonna run. Turbo, go with a full 3' and a 3" downpipe to match it up, Your going n/a and want power. Get a good 4 into 1 header. I dont know. I could go on for a easy hour with different mods and what would happen. Just do what you want and if they are gonna hook you up. Then will/shold hook you up with whatever you want to do as it is your car!
Good luck!

I have a 2001 Integra Type R with intake and exaust... i would like to keep it NA but if someone else is gonna pick up the tab i figure why not build a seperat motor and go turbo....I habe a spare bare b16 head as my plan was to build a race motor on my own dime because of CA emissions laws. thank you all for all your insight i think i am gonna go turbo on that motor so any info you could give me would be appreciated still looking to crawl, so for the b16 head, what internals should i start to look at (ie cams retainers...springs..etc) for a turbo motor? also should i bore it out to 2.0 L with turbo, iknow a lot of na peops do but i figure it helps with turbo too? last but not least, any one have a b18 block for sale...bare block is ok as all will be replaced...thank you again for all your guidence
