very loose steering wheel
Something is wrong with your car. By loose, I'm assuming you mean you turn the wheel and the car doesn't turn very much?? Check the balljoints (both upper and lower) and tierod ends for excessive play (there shouldn't be any, or very VERY little at most)... most likely they're probably shot. 3rd gens have a real nice tight precise steering, so if it's loose, something is wrong. If balljoints are fine, check the universal joint in the steering shaft for looseness and excessive play (down by the gas/brake pedal, under that tubular black cover). If everything else checks out ok, then the rack itself may be shot. Start with the easy stuff first though.
very very common characterist on 88-89 honda. I have the same problem on my acura, no road feel, very soft steering, i can turn the s. wheel and drive it with one finger. but the wheels does turn very good.
i have a ripped cv boot btw, and it's shaking like **** on freeway
