I ahve a 88 crx with a B18c1 and evarything has been fine with it for about 5 months, and all of a sudden when I first start the car I start to overheat a little and my temp guage goes crazy (up down, all the way down, all the way up)when I get on the gas.
any ideas, may be thermastat?

That and check coolant level for starters....

 

The EXACT same thing happened to me! Take a close look at the coolant temp sensor wiring... I replaced my coolant temp sensor harness plug, and some of the wiring (it was kinda frayed) - that solved my problem.

 

yup u gotta bad connection, that started happening to me when i would take off real hard

 

check your grounds... I had that happen to me... grounds needed to be cleaned

 

but what would account for the overheating?

you probably are not overheating, the gauge just has a bad ground (like the people above said). check the grounds.

 

do you know if your fan is working? You may want to check the fan switch too or the coolant temp sensor. Waterpump could do that too. Pray its not your headgasket. Good luck.

 

ok here is what I did
coolent was a little low, I add some, and my wiring is fine, it didnt do it when I just took it out so hopefull it was just the coolent leval.
but I did over heat the other day, there was no coolent in my overflow, but there was remnants of it sprayed thoughoout the engine bay, anyone have an idea about that?
