Default B18C1 or B18C5

As there's a considerable price difference between these two motors, is there a distinct advantage in preferring the C5 for the rather modest 20-30 additional HP?
For the $1500 or so difference, I KNOW I can apply that to a C1 and get much more for my money, right?

For guys who've already decided on one over the other, was it price alone, or upgrade path, or ????

Thanks,
Jeff

I went b18c1. $/hp ratio just doesn't work out with the c5. Things that were swaying me the other way included the fact that it's just a really cool engine, and that I could get that extra hp/tq legally (can ref and smog it whereas most of the mods to a c1 would render it smog-illegal).
But sometimes I would feel bad beating on a type-R motor. Basically I'm really happy with the GSR - it's plenty fast, especially considering I saved all that dough.

you are correct, C1 for the money is a better buy if you plan on modifying.

Heck the best head porters aren't even $1000. And to drop in some CTR pistons would still keep you under $1500 total.

Go C5 if you want a great "drop-in" setup.

i believe the concensus was that the c1 is only the better buy if you plan on leaving it alone. You can't get to the c5 performance levels with the c1 for 1500$.

I bought a jdm gsr engine. Domestic gsr's and type r engine are way too rare in canada, and i didn't want to spend an extra 2-3 grand for the type r motor anyway. I'd be afraid to rev it.

This is my theory tho... No matter which engine i bought, if i'm going to beat on it for 3-5 years, then i'll probably have to rebuild it. With the gsr, I can simply put in type R parts then, and end up at about the same spot i'd be with a rebuilt R, for not much more than the R rebuild(or use toda parts or whatever). I have more to look forward to with the gsr hehe; it only stays fun if you keep building.
