OT: G'luck with Isabel, NC & VA people
I keep hearing mixed reports of what to expect. The local news is hyping it up with live coverage of people getting ready and stuff, but weather.com is showing "showers with 40-50 mph winds". I'm in the DC area (Loudoun County). I guess we'll have to see what happens.
I'm on the 3rd floor of a condo, so I'm not worried about flooding or trees, but I might lose some siding. Good thing I don't "own" the outside of my building.
It would suck to lose power though.

Man, the last big hurricane back when I lived there was Hugo. It was so big that even way in the mountains, they cancelled classes at Tech for the 1st time in my 5 years. Hopefully the Tech game doesn't get cancelled. I want to watch them kick Texas A&M on ESPN tonight!

i did go to costco last nite because i was out of protein bars - it was rather amusing to watch the masses prepare for the supposed nuclear winter.
Although in retrospect, having an empty gas tank and waiting until last nite to fill it up (since i couldnt make it to work this morning if i didnt) was a bad idea. All the gas stations within 3 miles of me were out of 87 octane.

I like this self updating weather map:

Also shows that big front in the West that dropped our 83 degree temperatures yesterday by 40 degrees in an hour with snow above 7000 ft!

And it's *still* 110 miles SE of Cape Hatteras.

If George is right and Richmond sees hurricane-force winds, be prepared for some trouble. Fran rolled through Raleigh several years ago with winds near 80mph, gusts over 90mph.
The damage was very, very heavy. Think tornado-like effects, but across the entire county.
