Love the sound outside, not inside......
Anyone else love the sound of their exhaust outside but when your cruising down the highway trying to listen to the radio and the exhaust noice takes over. So you turn the radio louder and louder. But you never really get the quality sound? Ive got a nice Xplod system at all four corners of my car. Need some suggestions on keeping the exhaust sound outside and quiet inside.
Xplod are top qaulity. Its not that the sound system sucks . it that the muffler sound like ecos through my car. Im looking for someway to quiet the sound inside without taking away from the sound outside.

All I know is my Sony head unit SUX!!! Over half the buttons on the face don't work!!!
And I think there's something called Dynamat.... Works good for sound deadening and adding weight.

Xplods are Wal-Mart top of the line. Infinity, MBQuart, etc. Good stuff right there.
Eclipses are pretty good. And the TRUE top of the line-
FOCALS!

Dynamat or anything that will add weight to the panels will work. Just coat every sq in of the floor with it. Coating the sides and doors might help too.

if you didn't want to hear your car you should not have put an exhaust on it. you could add a bigger resonator to make it alot less noisey or go back to the stocker exhaust and get your Xplodes thumpin y0.
Xplod's have good power handling but poor sensetivity, which leads to less than optimal sound reproduction at volume. next time you shop for speakers look for 2 things:
RMS power rating.. the "max power" rating you see in big numbers on the speaker packaging is meaningless. it's arbitrary and doesn't conform to any standard. look for where it lists the RMS power. that's what counts.
dB rating - this is the sensitivity. the higher teh rating, the clearer your sound will be at volume.

I dont know much about all this steroe/speaker whatnot. MY rex isnt strip but it might as well be. The only thing that is really over the floor is a thin peace of carpet. And in the crxs the exhaust is like right behind your head.
What is the Dynamite (spray stuff)that you talk about krustindunm.
I want something that isnt going to weigh a hundred pounds. I would rather listen to the sound that sacrifice 100 lbs
Thanks for info

ive got a sony xplod deck (real nice) and only one speaker on the driver's door. and no cat and ebay fartpipe. i still hear it good even when the windows are down going 80mph on the interstate.
personally, I dont like sony's much either, I've had pretty bad luck with them, although thats not the point of this post/
the only thing i could really think of, is dynamat, or something like it, like raamatt. its pretty much like a piece of tinfoil which you heat up and it sticks to your floor, reducing in car noise. It actually helps quite a bit too...

Um no. The RMS i meaningless because there is no standard. Sure there IS a meaning to RMS, but how long does a speaker have to last, and at what frequency, for it to be a real RMS value.
sensitivity is the db at 1w/m, not overall volume, if you made a cone with the lightest material ever, and had a sensitivity of 130db @ 1w/m it may not have the regidity to do more than 30 dB.
To get good speakers listen to them!!!, try them out in the store, abuse them, try to blow them. Remember they are still under warentee at the store, so it doesn't matter.

no we won't. I got out of that stuff after spending a year writing the easiest to use and best enclosure volume program (it did almost every type of box, the only ones it didn't do were 6th order bandpass and ones i haven't heard of yet) and then losing my CD and the original to a HD failure. I also got bored with the whole stereo thing.
If you want to see the formulas I used for it I think I can still find those.

PS:I did release a demo version, so if anyone has it can you get me a copy PLEASE, i lost it too.

ok and I haven't touched low frequency acoustics since I graduated with a BS in physics. Now I only deal with higher frequency sound on acoustic microscopes. I don't go to the stero forum either. my last post was a polite way of saying "neat-o. I disagree but lets not have a pissing contest."
all teh same, props on the program.
