Build bottom end...or top end?
Which would you guys recommend be done first?
Port, polish, valve job on the head?
or
High CR pistons, new rods, crank girdle?
The head would obviously be much cheaper and easier to do..but both need to be done sooner or later..so which would be better first?

If I had the money to do either right now, I would definitely build the bottom end. That way when I get around to building the top end I wont have to worry about anything breaking down there. Another advantage of this is that it is like getting a brand new motor, for you to treat right from the very start. I am just sore because I bought a used GS-R and hardly knew anything about cars when I bought it, and come to find out the rings are going bad

comes down to $, and what you wanna spend. if your setup is giving you a big cam profile, then spend the $ to get higher compression, youll see more of an immediate impact, but in the amount of time it takes to have a block bored (if your going that route) and rebuilt, you can get 3 heads ported.. mainly due to lead time.

Me too, i would go ahead and build the bottom end first for reasons metioned above by other people. Another reason for doing this is the head would be easier to remove later on.

Bottom end. I assume that you are going to be going with Hi-comp pistons. Well, the headwork you will get is going to have to compliment that compressionm and if you did the head first the headwork that would be done would not be helping as much as it would with your current low compression.
