Oil filter discontinued by Honda?
Well, I was getting ready to buy some oil filters from manhonda.com and I see this notice:
'Honda has recently discontinued the Oil filter part number 15400-P0H-305. As of September 7th, the Oil filter will be the same for all Accord, Civic, CR-V, CRX,Del Sol, Element, Odyssey, Pilot, and Prelude models. Honda has a new design that is smaller and more efficient' http://www.manhonda.com/ap/ind...66183
So all honda's are now moving to the smaller filters found in the newer generation models?

When I went to the local Acura dealer last month, they showed me a memo very much like that one, and sold me the new filter. Anybody know of any performance differences?

i dont know, but would a smaller filter help in any oil pressure related cars?

i have heard that it raised oil pressure aprox. 8 psi for b-series motors... that's all i've hard though *shurgs*

hehe.. although sometimes I've noticed that hand tight going in doesn't mean hand tight going out..
.. filter wrench is backup for pain/suffering when I'm feeling too strong putting the filter on, and too weak when I'm taking it out..

I am using the new filter as of right now, and I haven't noticied any difference.
I even made them double check because the part number didn't look right to me..

Maybe you're not tightening it enough.

I've been using the filter from the SOHC 01+ civics for 3 oil changes now. Vtec is a lot more "popish" when it engages. Supposedly, these filter add 5-7 lbs of oil pressure too.

But seriously after all these threads bashing the oem filter (rightfully so) I wonder why everybody still uses these filters? I walked into walmart and found frams for $2.50, half off honda prices. These Honda filters are really cheap quality except the one that came off my car when I first got it new.

I just used Fram for the first (and last time). When I took the Fram oil filter off, the filter gasket separated from the filter (I didn't realize it) and I screwed the new filter on top of the old gasket, and then dumped many qts of Mobil 1 in the filler hole and out of where the filter wasn't mating correctly to the engine, and on to my driveway.
Piece of crap.
Piece of crap.

Less filtration could be bad.
faster oil flow is not as important as higher pressure.
I was hoping for scientific proof.
i.e., proof of increased pressure, better flow, etc.

It sounds like this would be true, but is it really true?
Meaning, has anyone tested this?
To the guy who buys Fram: Bad BAD oil filter. I've used them before. Do some reading on oil filters, like on the oildrop site. Not good, might as well you OEM filters, not fram.
Chris - who used OEM, then Mobil 1, now K&N, all at highly discounted prices, since 10-15$ per filter is retarded.

I dunno if it makes a difference in the real world or not but the Frams and Hondas are just really cheap I can get the Bosch for the same price as Hondas and it looks nicer.
