Electrical Problem!! Need someone who knows there electrical ish!!
Whats up guys. I am going nuts on my gf's car trying to figure this out. Her car is a 1994 Del Sol with a B18C. Here is the story...
A metal object was dropped into the cigarette lighter hole causing the wires to heat up and some melt. I stripped down the car to find damaged wires. The wires were replaced and so was the fuse. The car was working fine for about 2 weeks.
Now it is blowing the fuse shared between Parking Lights/License Lights/Instrument Lights. The fuse blows as soon as the parking lights are switched to the on position.
I am burnt out of ideas and could use some fresh thinking. Anyone offering help is appreciated. Even better, if you are in SD and don't mind helping out a fellow h-t'er for a cheap price, swing on over.
Thanks

You have a power wire on that circuit grounding out somewhere.
When you replaced the wires that were burned, did you make sure they were all covered good?

All the new wires were replaces and covered. I even traced the wires all the way back to the fuse box looking for a exposed wire. Nothing.
I also checked each of the accessories running on that fuse to see if there were possible wires exposed at the sources. Nothing again.
This just sucks

Make sure the inside of the cigarette lighters connections didnt melt together when the ish heated up....also make sure you check ALL wires that could have been touching any of the hot wires along the way....major PITA...
All wires have now been checked. I traced all the way from the cigarrete lighter up to the under dash fuse box. I found nothing unusual.
As of now I don't have the cigaratte lighter hooked up just so I can make sure it's not the problem. The wires are completely out of the car.
If no one else has any ideas or can offer help I guess I'll just have to take it to a specialist.

Does that car have a light on/near the cig lighter? That would come on with the instrument lights and could have its wires near the cig wires.

yes it does. it's in the ashtray. its a +12v switched with the instrument panel/market lights. i used it for my autometer lights. trace that wire back and see what's going down. it's on a separate wiring harness right next to the cigarette lighter

Its already all been unhooked, thats why I know the problem is somewhere else. I did trace the wires completely.
There has to be something somewhere else...i checked the grounds also and they all seem good. I think im taking it in tomorrow morning. I'll let everyone know.
Thanks

I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Hope its nothing big. I talked to the place doing it and he said its usually in the harness where the damage is. We'll see
Well...im getting ready to pick up the car and after a day and a half the bastard down their is BS'ing me.
Told me nothing I didn't already know, but wants 6 hours of labor to fix it....don't think so ($64 per hour)
Tried telling me its going to take them 3 hours to put it back together also, but I already have all the interior in my garage, I took it in their with nothing but a seat and a dash.
This sucks, guess its back to the drawing board for me...any new ideas?

you should try tracing the parking light wires and make sure anything that anything ran along/with the parking light wires are not hooked up to ground instead of 12V.
Basically make sure the wires are hooked up to the correct places...
if i am not mistaken, i don't recall you saying that you checked to see if they were. If you did, my mistake

Thanks, but I did try that also..no luck
As for the Shop i took it to, its get better....They said I have melted wires on the passenger harness....
The Del Sol DOESN'T have a passenger harness running down the door! Im having someone else look at it today. This is adding up quick. Sucks

try disconecting each wire on that fuse one at a time this means that unless you have multi plugs or a way to pull each wire out of the plug and reinsert it you will have to cut and splice each one at a time. Pull the fuse and or neg. batt. term. while you cut& splice or pull wires then do a test run one at a time when you power up again for the test of each item on that circuit the process of elimination will tell which segment is good or bad. Stay calm make belive it is someone elses car and they are no relation.
haha...that is funny.
I had a guy come and look at it today and thats exactly what he did. After about 2 hours or so he figured out there was a pinched wire above the ECU. It must have got pinched sometime when I took the ecu out and put it back in. So all in all, this pinched wire cost me $175...thats life.
